Got down at 8.45 to see 2 out already on 5.0m so, looking at the wind funnelling up the channel, I opted for a 4.7 with floaty wave board. I waded out to the wind line and held on for dear life for a couple of white knuckle rides before electing to change down.

Left the 4.7 rigged just in case and got to play around with the new Core 4.1. Unfortunately I haven't got a 370 mast so I made do with a 400, but I think I'm going to have to invest sooner or later. The sail did not seem to open out too well with the stiffer 400 but when you're hanging on, dreading to bear off to gybe, you tend too blame anything but yourself!

Eventually got dialled in and got some nice floaty port tack jumps, but I was holding back as the water was so cold and I didn't want too fall in. Dave Ewer from Reactive Watersports was out and was going for some violently fast, painful looking forwards on his 4.2, I don't know how he stays in control in those horrendous gusts.

Sailed for 3 hours and got rolled once surfacing just in time for the nose of my board to crack me on the left eye socket, just inside my helmet! I'm going to have to face the ignominy of turning up to work tomorrow with a black eye. Excellent session only marred by my winter wussiness stopping me from going for it properly. Off to Marguerita a week on wednesday so there'll be no excuse then, can't wait.
